As usual....I'm behind on blogging....back in December (ok....REALLY far behind on blogging...but it's Girl Scout cookie season....), Qatar celebrated their National Day as usual. Though differently due to the ongoing pandemic of course. The big expo that we normal go to was cancelled this year. They did hold the air show and parade, but when we drove past the corniche afterwards on the bleachers they had tons of seats with "X - do not sit here", "Please socially distance yourself" signs. So only super special important people were invited to view the air show in person (spoiler alert....we were not on the list). That's okay though, we did what we had done the past two years - avoided the crowds and watched from our porch! As usually, I had gotten a few pictures during the practicing that led up to the show.
Documenting our adventures as we live, work and play abroad....now on our fourth stop, Frankfurt Germany.

Socially Distant National Day 2020
those fire breathing C-17s as they flew past our house.
Some birds getting in on the air show gliding past a whirly bird.
So not as much National Day excitement in 2020, but we still had some fun porch entertainment. Besides, who doesn't love an extra day off work and school! We did go back up in the evening and watch the firework/drone show (a bit too far for decent photos). It was really neat watching the drones form the shape of the country colored like the flag and then transition in the Emir's face.

Italian Air Show
So over the Veteran's Day weekend, the Italian Air Force Acrobatic Team and Qatari Display Team held an airshow. What is Italy's Tricolori Aerobatic Display Team? Well let me show you.
Danger Plane Maneuvers with pretty Italian flag colored smoke!
The second day of the show was on Sunday, which while normally a work day Richard had it off due to the holiday (but kiddos were in school). It rained that afternoon, so the show was delayed. We opted to enjoy it from the comfort of our top floor balcony as oppose to dealing with crowds in the rain.
The planes were colored white/gray on one side and blue on the other side, but both sides had the Italian flag colors painted onto the planes.
Apparently, plane #2 called out sick that day...lol.
Ok, so maybe our porch viewing point removed some depth of field...but makes for a more unbelievable photo!
Zip and zooming every which way.
Wait for me guys!
It was a nice relaxing, crowd free air show (and the kids got home from school while we were up on the porch and caught the last few minutes of it).
